bio
b. Joinville, SC, Brazil
Karina Walter is a Brazilian photographer and multidisciplinary artist who lived in the USA during 2018 and 2024. In her last year, she was part of McColl Center Studio Artist Program in Charlotte. Currently, she has had a studio at Condo Cultural in Sao Paulo.
She works in a variety of techniques, including photography, collage, assemblage, installation, and sculpture. She uses household materials, some gathered from home, and others found in thrift shops and hardware stores. She also searches for objects in her personal archive which includes items from her grandmother. She is interested in the unfolding of the discourse that naturalizes the objectification and subjection of women, and finding ways to question gender stereotyping.
She received her degree in Industrial Pharmacy in 2000, earned a Master’s in Marketing in 2005, and studied Semiotics in 2010. In 2011, she moved to Spain and studied Photography at Centro Internacional de Fotografía y Cine in Madri. She took a collage course at the Tomie Ohtake Institute in Sao Paulo in 2017.
